Graham enjoyed a maritime career lasting forty four years. He really did ‘run away to sea on freighters’ in early 1960 at the age of seventeen. After years serving on foreign-going ships he changed careers to become a Bay of Islands cruise, fishing and ferry skipper. Drawing on his many and varied experiences he has compiled a selection of stories designed to both entertain and inform.
As a Bay of Islands fishing and cruise skipper Graham Clifford was never far from fishing action. His mark of worth – luck mixed with a useful measure of skill – was stamped very clearly in 1968 when he skippered the game fishing boat that landed the first New Zealand marlin to weigh 1000 pounds, the longest, strongest and heaviest fish of the 20th century.
